Press conference: Can Ukraine secure enough gas for the winter?

On September 24th, the experts of the German Advisory Group and the Institute for Economic Research (IER) Kyiv held a press conference on the topic: “Can Ukraine secure enough gas for the winter?”

The consultants presented the results of a scenario analysis conducted by energy expert Dr. Georg Zachmann. According to the calculations of the Advisory Group, two requirements have to be met in order to ensure energy security in Ukraine:

• A reduction of gas consumption by at least 20% of the 2013 values
• Reverse flows from Slovakia must be used at 50% of capacity
